Optical Submarine Cable Systems – MF-6900GWS (SLTE)


The MF-6900GWS family of products comprises a set of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical network elements for global submarine cable networks, providing high density over a single fiber pair.

Product Portfolio

The MF-6900GWS DRY PLANT family of products forms a complete and highly-flexible submarine optical transmission system capable of supporting speedy data rates. Its primary elements include the Line Terminating Unit (LTU), the Wavelength Terminating Unit (WTU) and the Maintenance Controller (MC).

A Redundant Line Terminating Unit (RLTU) and Photonic Cross-Connect (PXC) are also available as options. Terrestrial terminations are at SDH STM-256, STM-64 or STM-16, OC-768, OC-192 or OC-48 of SONET, or 10GbE.

Maintenance Controller (MC) and Craft Interface Terminal (CIT)

The primary control point for the submarine cable system is the computer-based Maintenance Controller (MC). This enables the monitoring and control of DRY PLANT such as LTUs and WTUs.

The MC provides a graphics-based display of the state of the system, and is able to display all equipment and system states and alarms, and also signal parameters such as wavelength, level and any transmission impairments.

The MC is intended for continuous system monitoring, and is based on a high-reliability work station.

The sub maintenance tool is the computer-based Craft Interface Terminal (CIT). This provides the same monitor and control facilities as the MC, plus equipment-level parameter adjustments.

The CIT is intended for in-station use, and is based on a low-cost industry-standard laptop computer.

Both the MC and the CIT connect to the SLTE via an in-station LAN and associated WAN.

Redundant Line Terminating Equipment (RLTU)

For exceptionally-high availability, the SLTE can also include optional Redundant Line Terminating Units (RLTU). With typically one RLTU per multiple LTU channels, it provides switched equipment protection on a 1:N basis, conforming to ITU-T G.841.
