Dry-air Insulation Technology

Mitsubishi Electric was the first company in the world to utilize environment-conscious, low-pressure dry-air, which has a global warming potential of "0", as the insulation medium for gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). Dry-air replaces the use of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas, which has high insulation performance but has a global warming potential 23,900 times that of CO2, as shown in Fig. 1. We have adopted a combined insulation concept using low-pressure dry-air and solid insulation so that the cubicle casings are equivalent to those utilizing SF6 gas insulation, as shown in Fig. 2. Presently, our line-up ranges from 7.2kV to 72kV.
