Mitsubishi Electric Becomes
Official Partner of PGA TOUR;
Agreement Includes Debut of Diamond Vision™ LED Scoreboards
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., April 16, 2007 – Mitsubishi Electric and the PGA TOUR have announced a three-year official marketing partnership that is highlighted by the introduction of state-of-the-art Diamond Vision™ LED scoreboards at PGA TOUR events.
Mitsubishi Electric becomes the Official High-Definition Television of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour, as well as the Official Large Outdoor Video Display Provider of the PGA TOUR. In addition to being the Official HDTV and Large Outdoor Video Display Provider, Mitsubishi Electric’s Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Division will also become an Official Sponsor of the PGA TOUR.
“We are extremely pleased to announce this new partnership with Mitsubishi Electric, a true leader in the industry,” said Tom Wade, Chief Marketing Officer for the PGA TOUR. “Considering the nature of our sport and the beauty and drama that come to life through our telecasts, golf probably benefits more from high definition than any other sport.
“We are particularly excited how Mitsubishi Electric will utilize the PGA TOUR platform to promote our official partnership, beginning with the integration of the new Diamond Vision LED scoreboards, which undoubtedly will have a tremendous impact on the onsite experience for our fans,” Wade continued. “With plans to eventually have 11 state-of-the-art scoreboards at each tournament, we will elevate the fan experience and improve our ability to personalize our players.”
Mitsubishi Electric is providing 22 Diamond Vision LED scoreboards that will debut at THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass the week of May 7-13. Following THE PLAYERS, the boards will be divided into two traveling sets that will leapfrog between PGA TOUR tournaments. There will be a phase-in of the boards during the summer with full integration of 11 scoreboards at each PGA TOUR tournament beginning with the first PGA TOUR Playoff for the FedExCup event, The Barclays, in August.
As part of the marketing partnership, Mitsubishi Electric is securing branding on PGATOUR.com video players, developing TOUR-themed promotions at retail outlets, and providing high definition televisions for the new TPC Sawgrass clubhouse. Mitsubishi Electric also will be advertising on PGATOUR.com and GOLF CHANNEL. Separately, it has entered an agreement with CBS to become the presenting sponsor of PGA TOUR high-definition telecasts for the remainder of 2007.
“For Mitsubishi Electric, our partnership with the PGA TOUR is a remarkable fit in so many ways,” said Akira Tasaki, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric US Holdings. “We are thrilled that the Tour will be using 22, new, Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision LED scoreboards for their key tournaments, and that we are also the official HDTV of the PGA TOUR. Mitsubishi Electric is all about quality and the PGA TOUR is all about quality. Golf will never be viewed the same again.”
The Diamond Vision scoreboards will bring a new level of interaction and excitement to PGA TOUR tournaments. Due to the full-color capabilities of the Mitsubishi Electric scoreboards and the fact that they are 57% larger than the previous boards, fans will be treated to things not possible before including: animations, personal player profiles including images and action shots, broadcast-quality graphics depicting where players are on the course, ShotLink analysis and new content directed at enhancing the fan experience.
