TOKYO, April 22, 2013 - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc., a North American subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric, started operation of its new transformer factory in Memphis, Tennessee on April 19. The $200-million, 350,000-sq-ft facility produces large power transformers mainly for power plants and substations. The investment reflects the Group's increasing commitment to providing electric utilities with high-quality products. Extra-high-voltage shell-type power transformers manufactured at the facility will strengthen the stability and reliability of North American electric grids, which account for more than 30% of the global demand for electric-utility equipment.

The new U.S. plant is a vital part of Mitsubishi Electric's global strategy to expand production capacity to meet the demand for transmission and distribution equipment, which is expanding by 400GVA annually.
