5-1. Natural Color Matrix

Point-of-sale (POS) terminals used in convenience stores often display advertisements while ringing up sales. Ordering systems used in eateries like conveyor-belt sushi restaurants often display images of menu items as well. When used in these applications, LCD modules must be able to display vivid images with colors that are the exact replica of the original.

To do that, we have developed a unique proprietary color conversion technology called Natural Color Matrix. This technology is built into the circuit board of each LCD module to optimize image data via our original matrix operation before displaying it in “true color” on the LCD module. Natural Color Matrix optimization ensures the color of the image is very close to the original image. That's essential when displaying the image of a product, and especially when that product is food.

Natural Color Matrix technology is used in almost all of Mitsubishi Electric's LCD modules sold for industrial use.

5-2. Ultra-wide Viewing Angle Technology

Industrial LCD screens are being increasingly used in a wide range of applications that require viewing from various angles and positions. Mitsubishi Electric is leading the way to meet this growing demand. Our unique ultra-wide viewing angle technology has enabled Mitsubishi Electric to achieve one of the largest viewing angles in the industry, at 170 degrees in both vertical and horizontal directions.

Figure 11 shows the visibility of an LCD module with ultra-wide viewing angles in comparison with a conventional LCD module. The colors of the image displayed on the conventional LCD screen vary significantly when viewed from different vertical angles, especially from the bottom. This has limited the position and angle at which LCD monitors can be installed in various equipment. LCD modules with ultra-wide viewing angles, on the other hand, deliver excellent visibility from every viewing angle and ensure a clear image and outstanding viewability regardless of the installation position or location. Our current line of LCD modules with ultra-wide viewing angles includes 5-, 9-, and 15-inch models, and will be expanded in the future.
