Smart meter system (AMI*)*Advanced Metering Infrastructure

High reliability with data collection rate of over 99.9%
Applicable to various services with a large-scale IoT platform A system compatible with both on-premises and cloud environments

Smart meters (electricity meters with communication function) are introduced in Japan to visualize, optimize, and measure electric power usage from 2014.

In 2007, Mitsubishi Electric started developing BLEnDer® MESH, a “multi-hop wireless communication technology” platform. Mitsubishi Electric recognized multi-hop wireless communication as the most suitable communication for smart meters, achieving a data collection rate of over 99.9%** . Recognized for the advanced technological capabilities and extensive supply record, our smart meter system received the MEXT* Minister Prize in the 47th Japan Industrial Technology Prize in 2018.

Mitsubishi Electric has continued the development keeping the products at state-of-the-art in accordance with international standards for smart meter system. As of the end of 2023, we have provided over 25 million smart meter communication units integrated with our HES (Head End System) and MDMS (Meter Data Management System) to both domestic and overseas markets, contributing to the efficient and flexible power management of our customers.

Mitsubishi Electric is the only manufacturer in Japan that can offer a total system from meters to HES and MDMS. We remain committed to promote the efficient use of energy, optimizing power supply, rationalizing customer management, undertaking business reform, and fostering the creation of new services.

TOPICS

Creation of new services utilizing smart meters

The communication infrastructure built for our smart meter systems will allow wide-area data collection without installing a new communication network. In addition to the conventional application of power consumption management, various other applications are under development such as automatic meter reading of gas and water, inventory management of vending machines, detection of fuel level in heating equipment, and collection of various data by connecting sensors to bridges and other structures.
