Sasikumar Darsith, a young defender from Albirex Singapore Football Academy, reflected on his experience at the Mitsubishi Electric football clinic, where he had the opportunity to develop his skills under the guidance of top coaches. The event, held at Bedok Stadium, brought together talented youth players for a day of training focused on Japanese-style football methods.
Sasikumar expressed his gratitude for the chance to train using the Okada Method. “The Okada Method was unique. We usually train with cones. Today, we played matches and learned new things and positions like 3A and 2. It’s more structured compared to the training we’re used to,” he said, highlighting the increasing focus on passing and positioning in modern football.
Beyond the technical lessons, Sasikumar appreciated the overall experience of the clinic, which allowed him to connect with other aspiring footballers. “I was nervous before the clinic because it was new people to play with. People I hadn’t met before, and I didn’t know how they played. I thought they would probably be better than me. But after playing with them, it made me motivated to play better and fix my mistakes,” he shared, emphasizing the value of teamwork and camaraderie that the clinic fostered.
For Sasikumar, one of the key takeaways was learning how and when to pass to his teammates. “To look at teammates and pass to them instead of making an error. To get open and pass, and to always analyse the situation before taking another step.”
Although Sasikumar enjoyed the clinic and learned a lot, he admitted that he struggled to keep up with some of the other players. “Keeping up with the other players was tough. It was my first time here, and I’ve only been playing football for two years. I need to practice more to be on their level,” he reflected, acknowledging the challenge but remaining determined to improve.
Sasikumar’s experience at the Mitsubishi Electric football clinic reinforced his passion for the game. As he continues to develop his skills, his dreams of playing professionally remain firmly in sight.
