Mitsubishi Electric SOCIO-ROOTS Fund to Celebrate 20th Anniversary

Donations to welfare facilities nationwide reach 900 million yen

Tokyo, February 22, 2012 - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that the Mitsubishi Electric SOCIO-ROOTS Fund, a charitable fund for which the company matches employee donations, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this April. To date, some 900 million yen, including the value of donated goods, has been gifted to some 1,500 social welfare facilities and programs.

Established in 1992 as one of Japan's first employee donation-matching programs, the Mitsubishi Electric SOCIO-ROOTS Fund is open to all company personnel nationwide and attracts the participation of many employees each year.

In a one-month period beginning on March 17, 2011, following the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 137,156,839 yen was raised by the Fund, doubled by Mitsubishi Electric to more than 274.3 million yen and then donated to the Central Community Chest of Japan to aid those affected by the earthquake.

At the request of Mitsubishi Electric employees, since last August the company also has been matching donations from employees to help children orphaned by the disaster. Donations have already reached 8.5 million yen, which will be matched by the company and then gifted to the Miyagi Children's Scholarship Donation of the Great East Japan Earthquake and foster homes in Fukushima Prefecture.
