Mitsubishi Electric has many business locations around the world. How do Mitsubishi Electric employees, who play different roles in a wide range of business areas, approach their work every day? In this series of interviews, we take a look at the candid views of employees in different locations.

The building systems business of the Mitsubishi Electric Group has a sales network in more than 90 countries around the world and our technological strength is highly regarded in Latin America thanks to the safety and comfort of our equipment, and our extensive experience.

Sebastián Vélez, a maintenance manager at Mitsubishi Electric de Colombia Ltda. in Colombia, had been fascinated by Japanese technology even before joining the company. He had a strong feeling that he could make a greater contribution to society by combining his technical expertise, knowledge, and experience with Japanese technology, which is world-class in terms of quality and safety.

At the same site, at Mitsubishi Electric de Colombia Ltda., Akikazu Tamakoshi works as a Sales Engineering Manager. According to him, the most important thing in developing elevators and escalators is to understand the target market and provide products that suit the country. Furthermore, it is necessary to make detailed adjustments that include the business customs and laws of the country. For this purpose, he emphasizes the mutual understanding of the differences between Japan and Latin America at the on-site level. He also says that he never stops learning so that he can lead his team in the right direction.

Working at Mitsubishi Electric is not only a source of pride, but also a great responsibility to contribute to society. However, when working in an intercultural team environment, people may often encounter differences in how they approach their work due to various customs and ways of thinking. "Our cultures are not superior or inferior to one another, just different," --- this was what Sebastián was told by a Japanese person. What they are aiming for, is to provide customers with Mitsubishi Electric's unique products, which are the result of the differences between Latin America and Japan.

Mitsubishi Electric is a company that pays attention to everything on a daily basis and always strives to be the best. Working at Mitsubishi Electric means that every day is a series of challenges. While placing importance on quality and safety, workers also ask themselves, "Can we make further improvements?" or "Can we make better products?" The more workers seek the best, the more they are motivated to take on new challenges. This corporate culture fuels their passion as professionals.

We must not forget that elevators and escalators are unmanned means of transportation. The Latin America team aims to create products that make customers always think, "Because it's made by Mitsubishi Electric, I can ride with peace of mind." The Mitsubishi Electric building systems business is relentlessly pursuing new challenges. At the root of this challenge, there is an abundance of energy that is as strong as the passion of Latin America.
