Highlights from the first-ever MECA KOREA CUP: "Awakening the power of theory"
It was early in the morning of August 7th 2025, at the Digital Transformation Hub in Gyeonggi TechnoPark, and participants were busy at work, skillfully operating PLCs and monitors at their desks. This was the site of the 2025 MECA KOREA CUP, where participants work with factory automation (FA) devices and software to develop smart factory models.
MECA (Mission Experience Communication Achievement) is an industry-academia collaboration platform launched by Mitsubishi Electric to nurture FA engineers to become proficient in problem-solving and to gain practical skills. MECA takes place in more than 12 countries around the world, but this was the first time the competition was held in South Korea. The main objective of the competition was to create a smart manufacturing application using digital twin technology. Participants were required to design a virtual production line and visualize the data using Mitsubishi Electric PLCs, servo systems, GENESIS64 Scada software, and Gemini 3D simulation software.
