Trends in the manufacturing industry in recent years include the utilization of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and AI, the full-scale digitalization of manufacturing processes and data linkage, and the response to the shortage of skilled engineers due to the declining birthrate and aging population, resulting in unmanned, automated, and remote operations on a global scale. In response, Mitsubishi Electric is developing a digital twin system to help optimize the entire value chain by modeling each process of facility design, production, operation, and maintenance in digital space. As part of this effort, we have developed “NC Virtual Simulator”, which is a high-precision simulator that contributes to improving work efficiency and productivity by digitizing the processes in the engineering chain, from product design to prototype machining.
