SynTRACS
Synchronous reluctance motor and inverter TRACtion System (SynTRACS™)
*SynTRACS is a trademark of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
SynTRACS is a traction system for railway vehicles that combines a Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) and an inverter to help address key challenges in railway traction, such as reducing reliance on rare metals, managing induced voltage during coasting, and improving energy efficiency.
Features
1. Energy Saving
High efficiency is achieved by eliminating rotor conductors, which helps reduce secondary copper loss. In addition, there is no iron loss during coasting.
2. Lightweight
The system does not require a motor cutout contactor, helping reduce overall weight.
3. Supply Stability
Because no rare metals are required, the system helps reduce supply risk and supports stable procurement.
4. Maintainability
The system is designed to simplify maintenance and reduce operational burden.
5. Safety
Since induced voltage does not occur during coasting, safety concerns are reduced.
6. High-current Operation with SiC
The motor requires higher current because the magnetic flux must be strengthened. To support high-current operation, SiC devices with low-loss characteristics are used.
