Our Compass for a Better Tomorrow

The Mitsubishi Electric Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility can be traced back to Mitsubishi Electric’s founding in 1921. At that time, our founders set forth our corporate aspirations to contribute to the prosperity of society, product quality, and customer satisfaction in the “Keys to Management” (in Japanese, Keiei no Yotei). The spirit of that document lives on today in the Group’s Corporate Mission and Seven Guiding Principles that frame our current CSR policies. While vigilantly enforcing corporate ethics and compliance, we are constantly working to improve educational programs, strengthen our internal control system, and pursue initiatives related to quality management, global environmental conservation, philanthropy, and improved communication with all stakeholders.

Highlights from Around the World

The Mitsubishi Electric Group is helping to enrich society through a broad range of philanthropic and volunteer activities in Japan and around the world. Through a variety of volunteer activities and support programs across America, Europe, and Asia, we are in touch with the unique needs of local communities and do our best to help make a difference.

In the U.S., the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation has been helping young people with disabilities to maximize their potential and participation in society since 1991. It works with employee volunteers of the Mitsubishi Electric U.S. companies, and the employees regularly invest their time, talent, and finances in the communities in which they live and work. Each principal location in the U.S. maintains an employee volunteer philanthropy committee which partners with nonprofit organizations in their community. As an example, employee volunteers support the provision of vocational learning opportunities for youth with disabilities in the United States. This volunteer effort is part of the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation’s vision to empower youth with disabilities to lead productive lives.

Mitsubishi Electric’s branches in Germany and Italy have supported local events as part of “Special Olympics.” Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Through corporate sponsorship and the support of corporate volunteers, Mitsubishi Electric is making these events more enjoyable and empowering for the participating athletes. Special Olympics events are held with the aim to promote a more broad-minded and tolerant society — a goal in harmony with Mitsubishi Electric’s corporate philosophy “Changes for the Better.” For more information about Special Olympics worldwide, visit www.specialolympics.org.

Furthermore, many employees of Mitsubishi Electric companies in the Asia region enjoy tree planting activities with local people in each community. Mitsubishi Electric believes that through the day-to-day running of our businesses, we are responsible for not only the well-being of our customers, but also for that of the environment and society as a whole. We appreciate having opportunities to take care of nature and look forward to watching the trees grow for a greener tomorrow.
