Teaching environmental protection and sustainability through tree planting

Mitsubishi Electric Thai Foundation gives back to the community by planning and conducting annual volunteer activities in support of institutions that exist to improve the lives of residents nearby Mitsubishi Electric Group companies in Thailand. Often unsupported or inadequately funded, these include schools throughout the country. In 2010, the Foundation engaged in volunteer support efforts at Watbote Wittaya School in Prachinburi province, near Bangkok, which was in need of refurbishment and materials. On January 15, 2011, 170 employees from nine affiliated companies of Mitsubishi Electric in Thailand planted more than120 trees in the school compound. Other activities included vegetable planting with the students. The agricultural produce from the vegetable plot supplements the students' lunch to help ensure a balanced diet. Working alongside other members of the community, volunteers repainted the school building, repaired desks and chairs, donated teaching materials, and rebuilt sanitation facilities.
