TOKYO, October 26, 2026 – Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that it has obtained ISO/IEC 420011 certification, the international standard for AI management systems, from SGS Japan Inc., a third-party certification body, for its “AI Agent Platform,2” which supports AI utilization across the Mitsubishi Electric Group. ISO/IEC 42001 is an international standard that specifies management requirements for organizations to appropriately manage AI-specific risks and to develop, provide, and use AI systems responsibly. The certification confirms that Mitsubishi Electric has established and operates a management system in accordance with international standards to ensure the safety and reliability of its AI Agent Platform.
As AI technology has been deployed increasingly widely across society in recent years ensuring its quality and reliability has become a major challenge. In particular, because AI agents make decisions and take actions autonomously, advanced governance is required across the entire AI system development and operation process, covering not only model performance but also data selection, application to business processes, human oversight, and evaluating and improving the outcomes of AI agents’ actions.
Mitsubishi Electric positions the provision of high-quality, highly reliable AI systems as an important initiative in fields such as public infrastructure, where reliability is essential. To achieve this, the company designed and built an AI management system for the AI Agent Platform, the core platform of its AI systems. This integrated management system provides for risk assessment, human oversight, and continuous monitoring throughout the process, from planning and development to operation and improvement. Using AI agents within an organizational management framework ensures the quality and reliability of the company’s AI systems while enabling AI utilization with effective governance.
Going forward, Mitsubishi Electric will embed advanced AI governance based on the AI management system as a business foundation across the Mitsubishi Electric Group. By combining this governance with the expertise and know-how cultivated in critical infrastructure business, the company will provide products and services that use high-quality, highly reliable AI systems.
